Culinary Tourism in 5 Easy Steps

If you are new to Culinary Tourism, you are obviously curious about our Association. What is the International Culinary Tourism Association and who is it run by? What kind of Programs and Services do we provide? What affiliated companies help support our missions and goals? What kind of clients and projects do we work on? The answers to your questions are part of your Discovery phase.

So you have learned a bit about the Association and our leadership in the culinary tourism industry. Now what do you do? Before anything else, you need a solid understanding of culinary tourism. How do we define it? How is culinary tourism the hottest new niche in tourism? How is it different from agritourism? How is culinary tourism much more than restaurant guides and restaurant week promotions? We have the tools to help you understand what culinary tourism is – and what it is not.

So now you know about our Association and are an expert on culinary tourism! How do you leverage that knowledge into something productive? Connect to the global community of culinary tourism professionals. Learn what constitutes Best Practices in culinary tourism product development and marketing. Find out how to start or join an Association Area Committee near you. Perhaps you are an academic who is looking for more contact with other culinary tourism researchers? Or maybe you just want our free newsletter. Those who represent larger organizations (e.g. hospitality associations and destination marketing organizations) should explore Strategic Partnership with our Association. Let us show you how we can help you and your members. How you connect is entirely up to you and your goals – we can meet your needs.

Once you’ve connected with the world’s culinary tourism community, it is time to develop your product. What is your product? A tour company? Restaurant? Winery? Destination? You might need some help designing the best product for your market. In fact, what is your culinary tourism brand? We have the tools and resources to help you develop a sustainable culinary tourism product (or group of products) that is (are) specifically tailored for the needs of you and your business.

You’re almost at the top! You’ve read all there is to read on culinary tourism, you’ve joined our Association, you’ve developed your culinary travel product portfolio. What is next? Promoting those products of course! But how and where to do that? Should you go with a display ad in a glossy magazine or maybe media relations would work for you? Are you a new company perhaps with a small budget and without a lot of culinary travel marketing experience? We have developed unique ways to help you promote your business – whatever kind of business it is. Come on, aren’t you curious yet?
