Area Committee

Mission Statement

The mission of the International Culinary Tourism Association’s (ICTA) Area Committees is to increase and maintain two-way communication between the target Area and the ICTA.

Area Committee

Objectives

To leverage at a local level the resources of the world's leading authority on culinary travel, i.e. ICTA. Resources include research and case studies, an active global community, development of projects and products relevant to the GeoCulinary region in question, and of course, staff support.

Objectives will be accomplished by an online communication center administered by the ICTA, maintaining consistent communication between committee members and the ICTA, and supporting the development of the Area's future culinary tourism initiatives.

Your Benefit

Perhaps you already have a local culinary tourism group and things are going fine. Why work with the ICTA? The main reasons are:

1) for ICTA'sleadership and guidance based on our world-wide experience in culinary tourism;

2) for media placement and other media exposure opportunities when they arise; and

3) Opportunity for Area Champion to apply to serve on the ICTA Board in the position of Area Liaison; and

4) for access to additional ICTA products and services at favorable rates for your members.

Additional reasons why you should work with the Association are listed below under "ICTA Responsibilities".

Membership & Leadership

In order to qualify for the establishment of an Area Committee, an area must demonstrate considerable interest in culinary tourism, as determined by the Area's participation in related activities and number of ICTA memberships, Any member of ICTA (at any membership level) is eligible to become a member of their respective Area Committee. A member of an Area Committee must be an ICTA member in order to participate on the Committee.

Each Area Committee will be administered by an Area Champion. The Champion’s primary goal is to create a ‘local ground swell’ for Culinary Tourism in their Area. Any ICTA member in good standing can apply to serve as an Area Champion (request application here).

Applications will be reviewed by the ICTA office and the Board of Directors Chair overseeing area participation. Additional terms below.

Geographic Breakdown Until an Area has achieved a critical mass in ICTA members, its Committee members will automatically become members of the next larger regional committee. The Area Committee must request permission from the ICTA to divide when it feels it has achieved a critical mass large enough to sustain itself.
